Experts warn that chronic sleep deprivation contributes not only to poorer grades but also to reduced mental well-being and increased burnout.

The popular image of the successful student pulling an all-nighter before an exam is therefore misleading. Scientific evidence consistently suggests that students achieve better results when they prioritize sleep as part of their study strategy. Sleep enables the brain to learn more efficiently, retain information more effectively, and perform at a higher level during examinations.

For students aiming to maximize their grades, the message from sleep science is remarkably clear: studying and sleeping are not competing activities. They are complementary partners. Every hour of quality sleep helps transform hours of study into lasting knowledge.

The next time exams approach, students may be better served by closing their textbooks slightly earlier and getting a full night’s sleep. Their brains—and ultimately their grades—are likely to thank them for it.
